Q: Do I need to have a visa before I come to Taiwan? How much is the fee?

Q: How do I set up the internet?
A: With your passport, ARC and a local guarantor, you can set up your internet at a local company near you.
Q: How do I set up my cell phone?
A: With two forms of acceptable identification (Passport, ARC, International driver's license...etc.), you can set up your cell phone in a local company.
Q: How can I get my license?
A: If you don't have an international license, you have to take a writing test and driving test. The driving test is probably the easiest in the world since it does NOT require driving on the road. The fee is also relatively cheap at the price of 450 NTD per test. If you have a license in your country, most likely you are able to exchange it here at Taiwan.

Q: How much money do I need for the first month?
A: If we include costs of all needs (food, housing, cell phone fee... etc.), 24000 NTD (800 USD) would be a reasonable budget for a decent lifestyle.
Q: Can I use my credit card in Taiwan?
A: You sure can, but keep in mind that smaller shops may not accept cards or have a minimum for you to use a card.

Q: Do I have to pay taxes in Taiwan?
A: You who have stayed in the Republic of China less than 183 days in a calendar year will be charged 18% tax. You who have resided in the R.O.C for more than 183 days within the same calendar year will be taxed as individual residents living in the R.O.C, following national tax regulations. At the end of each year, the party of the second part who has stayed in the country for at least 183 days within the same calendar year will be eligible for a good tax rebate on the tax paid in the first 183 days.
